A foggy start gave way to a beautiful warm and sunny day, and the 70 ladies who played in this year’s Foundation Tennis Tournament all had a wonderful day. Plentiful supplies of fresh coffee and Mrs Waller’s homemade flapjacks ensured that energy levels were high throughout the morning, with each person playing 4 matches of 8 games in a round robin format. Courts were arranged so that players were with others of similar level, and with others who have sons or daughters in the same age group wherever possible, so a lot of socialising went on between games.

At the end of the morning, everyone moved to the lawn in front of the pavilion for a delicious Jubilee themed lunch with wine, and Guy Waller presented the winning players of each court with their prizes, and drew the raffle winners. Just under £1,900 was raised for the Foundation.

Top scorers on the courts were Henrietta Griffiths, Emma Timberlake, Claire Petter, Cherry-Anne Russell, Sandrina Rigby, Emma Bassil, Marion Blake, Helen Cradock, Debs Thomas, Diana Buck, Diane Vincent and Belinda Morgan.

Raffle prizes, which included family photo sessions, Pol Roger champagne, a Gelish manicure at Chantal Beauty and bottles of wine were won by Emma Bassil, Ali Bown, Fiona Faure, Amanda McKee, Belinda Morgan, Susan Quinn, Clare Robertson, Paula Serjeant and Emma Timberlake. Many thanks to all players and to the raffle prize donors for making this such a successful and fun event
