House Cross Country

Glorious sunshine and exuberant spectators set the scene for this year’s Inter-House Cross Country. With near perfect conditions, expectations were high this year to thwart Cubitt’s perpetual run of victories over recent years and, with only two girls houses, the South/West divide was just as hotly contested.

In the end, despite close fought battles in both senior and junior boys races, Cubitt prevailed yet again in both team events. Individually, Angus Young (L) finished first in the senior race, in a time of 24:50.00 , six seconds ahead of Max Hemming (C), who was closing fast over the last 400m. Third came Karthic Suresh (C), ahead of fourth place Ed Roberts (L).

Tim Ayling (N) won the Junior Boys, with Harry De Blaby (C) coming 2nd, Matt Foster (C) 3rd and Freddie Campbell (C) 4th.

Overall results in the Senior Boys saw Cubitt win with Loveday 2^nd, East 3^rd and North 4^th and in the juniors, Cubitt 1^st, North 2^nd, Loveday 3^rd, East 4^th.

The Senior Girls event saw the closest of finishes between Alex Adams (W) and Beth Andrew (S) who finished in that order, despite both recording a time of 14:25.00. West’s victory was sealed when Rachel Lubbock, Emily Wolley and Izzy Rennocks all from West, finished third, fourth and fifth.

With the first eight finishers from each house scoring, nothing could split the Junior Girls’ teams, with both South and West amassing exactly 100 points apiece. Two outstanding finishes from 1st place Christi Radkiewicz (S) and 2nd place Tabz Bowden (W) both finishing 30 seconds ahead of the rest of the field, led the way for a string of alternating South, West girls crossing the line. Clemmie Ryder-Smith (S) came 3^rd, Megan Batchelor (W) 4^th, Olivia Hartley (S) 5^th and Olivia Camsey (W) 6^th.

Whilst we eagerly await next year’s competition, where there will be a few scores to settle, congratulations go to all athletes for competing with such spirit and sincere thanks to all that helped make Monday afternoon such an enjoyable event.
