Over the past couple of weekends a number of our athletes have been representing their clubs at national finals.

Freya A. was part of the victorious Surbiton under 16 side that triumphed in the Supra League national finals at Nottingham. Following a comfortable 6-1 win over Sutton Coldfield in their first pool game, they then beat Marlow 2-1 and followed this with two second-half goals to beat Alderley Edge and top their group. Taking a lead in the final against York just before half time, Surbiton added two more in the second half to win 3-0 and take the crown.

Having lost 1-6 to Cambridge City and beaten Harrogate 2-1 on the first day, Jamie F. and Louis P. joined their Guildford team mates on the Sunday but unfortunately lost 2-4 to eventual champions Trojans even though Louis got on the scoresheet. Their play –off match against Brooklands was won 5-3 with Jamie getting a goal this time.

The following weekend Charlotte B. and Georgie L. starred for Guildford in the Women’s showpiece event – the Tier 1 Cup Final at Lee Valley. Playing against Premier Division opponents Beeston they took the lead after 25 minutes, only for Beeston to equalize five minutes later. Level at half time, four goals in ten minutes settled the affair. Beeston scored a couple but Guildford responded to make it 2-3. Beeston scored again and although there were chances both ends during the last 15 minutes, the score remained the same leaving Guildford runners-up – a very good achievement considering they are two leagues below Beeston.
