‘A Face in the Trees’ was a local art competition organised by The Arts Society Cranleigh in collaboration with the Knowle Park Trust. Students were invited to submit original drawings of imaginative faces, with the winning designs to be transformed into wooden carvings.
Zoe G. (West) drew inspiration from Echo, the mountain nymph from Greek mythology who was silenced by Hera. Her compelling design, accompanied by a richly imaginative and detailed painting, captured the judges’ attention.
They were particularly impressed by the narrative woven into her artwork, which referenced the myth of Echo, Zeus, and Hera.
The winning designs were brought to life in wood by local artist Ella Fielding and displayed in the secret garden at Knowle Park over the Easter holiday. Following the exhibition, the wooden faces will be placed in trees throughout the park, becoming part of a long-term treasure hunt trail for visitors to enjoy for years to come.
During the Easter break, Zoe was invited for a private viewing of the seven winning sculptures and had the opportunity to meet the artist behind their creation. Well done Zoe!
