On the 23rd October, a group of 25 Design Engineers set off for Munich in the early hours of the morning for an action-packed trip. Upon landing in Munich, the group checked into the hotel and made their way to Allianz Arena for a tour of the world-famous home of FC Bayern Munich. The tour took the group up to the top of the stadium to test the bellowing acoustics of the architecture, followed by exploring the press room and changing rooms before walking up to the pitch with the Champions League music blasting in their ears.
After another early start on day two the group travelled out to Stuttgart to visit the Mercedes Plant where the group enjoyed a tour of the manufacturing facilities. The guided tour took the group through the press shop where all of the body panels for Mercedes vehicles are formed and then on to the assembly line where each individual vehicle was assembled to its owner’s exact specification. After the tour the group headed across the city to visit the Mercedes Museum where they learned all about the history of the brand and were able to see the iconic vehicles manufactured by Mercedes Benz throughout its rich history.
Day three started with an interesting visit to the Siemens HQ in the centre of Munich, where a former employee gave an insightful talk all about the history of Siemens and a glimpse into what the future holds. The pupils were then able to explore the various exhibits and get hands on with a number of interactive elements. After Siemens the group made their way across the city to the BMW Plant where they explored the BMW Welt, an experience centre and showroom followed by a visit to the Museum of the brand. Another fascinating insight to one of Germany’s biggest vehicle manufacturers.
On the final full day of the trip the group made their way over to the Olympic Park for a tour of the architecturally impressive Olympic Stadium. The group enjoyed a behind the scenes tour which resulted in a race on the athletics track and kick around on pitch once used by both of Munich’s football teams. After the stadium tour the group took a trip up to the top of the Olympic Tour to enjoy some breath-taking views of Munich. The final sightseeing stop was the Deutsches Musuem where the group learned about the country’s rich industrial heritage. The trip then culminated with a visit to a local bowling alley which was thoroughly enjoyed by all!
