We congratulate Scarlett Schutte, who has come second in the prestigious Modern and Medieval Languages essay competition run by Newnham College, Cambridge. Scarlett’s stylishly written essay beat many other entries from year 12 pupils across the UK and was entitled: ‘’The study of texts written in other times and/or in other languages shows how the arts and humanities have a vital role to play in the context of today’s climate crisis where there must be a fundamental and urgent change in the relationship between people and nature’, Discuss.”

Scarlett will be collecting her award plus £200 prize money, at a ‘virtual’ prize giving ceremony on 4th July. She is currently studying Spanish, French and English for her A levels and aspires to undertake a degree in Modern and Medieval Languages at Cambridge University when she finishes her studies.
