The Gothia World Youth Cup 2022 finally went ahead after being cancelled twice due to Covid. It was hosted in the city of Gothenburg, Sweden, and included players from 90 countries. The opening ceremony included 50,000 spectators and players lasted for over an hour and half with every team processing with flags. The Gothia World Youth Cup is the biggest football tournament in the world where talented players from all over the world represent their region and enjoy an experience of a lifetime.

Hamish R., Toby A, and Will S. were selected to play following trials that included 1,000 young players. They were joined by several pupils from Cranleigh Prep School who were selected for their age groups in the same trials.

The Cranleigh community came together as families travelled to Sweden to support the players, including siblings Maisie R. and Amelia C. creating a lively travelling support crew.

The tournament was an experience of a lifetime for our pupils, playing against teams from Germany, Mexico, Sweden and Peru to name a few. A huge well done to all involved.
