The second half of the Michaelmas term has been an action packed series of robotics events for the DE department. This kicked off with a prep schools robotics showcase event at the end of October to coincide with the VEX Robotics Girls into STEM campaign. Prep schools from around the local area all descended on the Cranleigh DE department for a fun filled day of building, coding and driving robots! Later in the term it was the turn of the Senior Cranleigh Robotics team to take to the field as they debuted their robot at the Simon Langton Boys School regional on 25th November. The team learned a lot from this event and made it through to the quarter finals and picking up a lot of interest in their robot from other teams along the way.

On Saturday 2nd December it was the Cranleigh School Design Engineering Department’s turn to host a regional event and 16 teams from across the country took part. The standard was incredibly high with the Cranleigh Robotics team managing to qualify in 2nd place, only narrowly losing one match along the way. Our team progressed all the way to the final, setting the season’s best score of 194 along the way with their alliance partners from Radley. The final was a tense, closely battled match with the lead exchanging hands a number of times over the course of the 2 minutes. The Cranleigh School alliance narrowly missed out on the win by 3 scores and had to settle for 2nd place overall on the day but a fantastic result nonetheless in only their second competition. Well done to all teams involved and to all of the staff and volunteers that made the event possible. The team will take to the field again in the new year with the aim of reaching the National Finals.
