Cranleigh School has been appointed as a Design and Technology Association (D&TA) Hub School for the Southeast region. This recognition reflects what the D&TA describes as our ‘longstanding commitment to innovation, creativity and excellence in Design and Technology education’.
Sam Price, Head at Cranleigh School, said: “Being selected as a Design and Technology Hub School acknowledges the expertise of our dedicated staff, the enthusiasm and ability of our students, and the strength of our partnerships with local schools and industry. When you walk into our Design Engineering department, you can feel it buzzing with the creativity and enthusiasm of pupils and staff. At A-Level this year 100 per cent of our D&T students achieved A*-B grades, and our robotics teams have won their regional competitions and progressed to the national finals. Design and Technology is a huge strength at Cranleigh.”
We are also pleased to announce that our Head of Design Engineering, Mr Jon Taylor has been awarded the status of Regional D&T Leader, sponsored by Samsung UK, working in partnership with the Design & Technology Association (D&TA) to support teachers and schools across our region.
Mr Taylor said: “I’m delighted with this news, firstly for Cranleigh but also for the Design and Engineering pupils and staff who have shown such dedication to the subject. Cranleigh’s new status as a hub school will bring so many benefits with it, including crucial partnerships with industry. My new role will see me acting as a point of contact for D&T teachers across our region who need advice and support. This will make Cranleigh a focal point for collaboration, best practice, ideas and resources.”
Today’s recognition from the Design and Technology Association comes alongside notable successes in the field of robotics. Both of our senior teams progressed through to the national finals of the VEX robotics competition which takes place in Telford at the end of February and our Prep teams competing for the first time. This season has been one of most successful to date with our teams collecting three Tournament Champion trophies and one Robot Skills Champion trophy.
This follows the publication this month of our latest ISI inspection report, which commented that our pupils ‘develop high-quality technological skills’ and specifically referenced our ‘well-developed programme for robotics.’ Academically, Cranleigh’s students are thriving in public exams in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. One hundred per cent of A-Level Design Engineering and Product Design students achieved an A*-B grade and 88 per cent of mathematics grades were in the A*-B range in 2025.
