Sports Update – 24th April 2026

Athletes and cricketers launch the summer season at Cranleigh and we celebrated Upper Sixth at the inaugural Sixth Form Sports Awards.

Sports review

It has been an excellent start to the Summer sporting season, with Athletics teams delivering outstanding performances and showing impressive team spirit across both squads.

In the girls’ events, there were notable victories in the U19 age group, with Jayne O winning both the long jump and high jump. Gabi C-B secured first place in the 200m, while Tahlia T triumphed in the U17 shot put.

The boys’ team also produced strong results. Rafi W claimed victory in the U15 1500m, Zac B won the U17 100m, and in a highly competitive U19 100m race, Sean-Paul Ajayi finished second, closely followed by Sam M in third place.

Zac S added to the success with a win in the U15 long jump, highlighting a very promising season ahead.

In cricket, the boys’ teams have won over 70% of their matches so far. The 1st XI, despite a strong start and taking five early wickets, were narrowly defeated by 38 runs. Zan C delivered an impressive performance with 69 runs.

The 2nd XI secured a tense two-wicket victory, while the 4th XI achieved a dominant nine-wicket win, with Tommy W top-scoring on 50. The 15A side were narrowly defeated, though Lochie I-K deserves recognition for his well-made 50. The 15B, 14A, and 14B teams all recorded convincing wins, with Max G contributing a notable 47 runs.

The girls’ cricket teams all played at home. The 1st XI faced Hampshire in a special Jubilee fixture, posting 150 runs but narrowly losing by two wickets in a closely contested match. Both the 15A and 14A teams delivered strong performances, suggesting another exciting season ahead.

The tennis teams have now completed their internal fixtures and are looking forward to the start of their competitive season this coming weekend.

Team of the Week

U18 Senior Girls’ Athletics: Jayne O, Gabi C-, and Lucy S competed across multiple events, consistently showing determination, versatility, and a willingness to challenge themselves. Their attitude and commitment set an excellent example for others.

During the week

There were several additional fixtures of note. The school’s 1st team golfers played a hard-fought match against the Old Cranleigh Golf Society at West Surrey Golf Club on Tuesday. The standard of play was exceptionally high, with experience ultimately proving decisive as the opposition secured a 3–0 victory, though several matches went down to the final hole.

We also hosted the MCC in boys’ cricket, where the 1st XI produced an excellent performance to win by six wickets, successfully chasing 210. Samand K played a standout innings, finishing unbeaten on 58.

The U14A boys’ team continued their unbeaten run with an impressive victory over Hoe Bridge in their first cup match of the season.
