Sadly we learned this week of the passing of Freddie Knoller at the age of 100. Freddie, a survivor of Auschwitz, was a regular visitor to Cranleigh and inspired so many pupils with his powerful stories about his experience. He always used humour and positivity in his talks, and spoke frankly of loss of his family and the dehumanisation of becoming his number, 157108. His remarkable story was the subject of a BBC documentary in 2015 and his two books, Desperate Journey and Living with the Enemy, both offer a deeper insight into his story. Freddie will be sadly missed by our community and his name will remain here as The Knoller Society, our History Society, marks his courage and determination.
