Happy New Year!

The term has begun with freezing and wet weather, but a huge thank you to our staff and pupils for approaching their sessions with such positivity, even in tough conditions.

Over the holidays, our Cranleigh Ski Team shone brightly in Les Menuires at the First Snow Ski Championships. In the Giant Slalom (GS) event, our skiers dominated, with Noah H recording the two fastest times out of 115 competitors. He was closely followed by Tom S, who secured third place. Both athletes triumphed in their respective age categories. The second day featured the slalom course, where Noah H again delivered the fastest overall time, this time against 126 competitors. The final day brought the thrilling Parallel Slalom event, with teams competing head-to-head. Cranleigh’s A team narrowly missed out in the semi-final, setting us up brilliantly for future races.

It has also been an exciting time for our cricket programme. Molly B-S is currently representing Scotland Women’s U19 team at the World Cup, while Alex F has been selected for the England U19 men’s cricket tour of South Africa this month. Charlotte B will attend her England Women’s U18 training camp this weekend, and we wish her every success. Joe T recently played for Harlequins U18 in their academy match, while Cameron W represented Bath at the same level. Meanwhile, Alec C-J and Matt H have been training with England U18s, and Luisa C has been training with Wales U18s.

It was fantastic to see some netball and hockey pre-season action just before term started, and it promises to be a very exciting term ahead. Although the U14A Boys hockey cup game had to be cancelled due to a frozen pitch, we did manage some badminton games against Glebelands on Thursday, which was a wonderful way to get the new season under way.

This weekend:

This weekend marks the first matches of the season for several teams in netball, boys’ hockey, and football. Sadly the freezing conditions has meant all football matches both at Bede’s and at Cranleigh have been cancelled. Those football players may leave after lunch on Saturday.

We are hopeful that the weather will not impact the rest of the games and any changes will be communicated directly to the pupils as well as our sports desk being updated immediately.

Sadly one or two matches have been cancelled due to player numbers at other schools, but we will be running internal games for our pupils. All locations and timings can be found on our sports desk page here.
