A weekend packed with matches saw outstanding performances and memorable moments.

The action kicked off with the spectacular ‘Vertical Challenge,’ a high jump competition set up by the athletics team in the Emms Teaching Block. Contestants impressed, and a large, enthusiastic crowd from various age groups provided fantastic support. Congratulations to winners Jayne O. and Monty N., and to all participants. A special thanks to the staff for their creativity and effort in organising such a fantastic event.

Netballers were out in full force. The 1st VII faced Waverley Vipers, cheered on by the crowd inside the TASC for the first time. The 2nd VII secured a hard-fought 24-22 victory over Lancing’s 1st team, while the 3rd and 4th VII also triumphed against higher-level opposition. The 5th VII defeated Lord Wandsworth 21-12.

The 16A side played a thrilling, closely contested match against Epsom, narrowly losing in the final minutes. There were victories across multiple teams, with standout performances from the 15B and 15E squads. Issy S. was particularly impressive in goal defence for the 15Bs, while the 15Es delivered their best game of the season. A special mention to the two 14E players who stepped up to help overturn a five-goal deficit, securing a 26-22 victory against Epsom.

Football matches also delivered excitement. The 4th and 5th XIs drew with Tonbridge, while the 2nd XI competed in the inaugural Hutton Trophy against the Old Cranleighans, narrowly losing 2-1 in a great showcase of school and OC sport. The 1st XI produced their best performance of the season, narrowly losing 1-0 despite hitting the crossbar and posts multiple times.

Teams of the Week:

  1. Girls’ 1st XI Hockey – Delivered a brilliant 4-2 win over previously unbeaten Brighton, showcasing their best display of the Tier 1 England Hockey campaign.
  2. 15E Netball – Came from five goals down in the final quarter to win 26-22, demonstrating resilience, teamwork, and determination.

On Tuesday, the 1st XI Boys’ Hockey team played their final group match of the Tier 1 competition away at Millfield, needing a win to reach the National quarterfinals. Despite conceding two early goals, they fought back to win 4-2 and secured their spot after half term.

Our U14 and U15 hockey teams also faced RGS Guildford on Tuesday and Wednesday. The 15A’s won 4-1, the 15B’s clinched a last-minute 2-1 victory, and the unbeaten 15D’s triumphed 3-0. While the U14 teams faced tough competition, they continue to show great progress this term. As I am writing we have football, hockey and netball matches being played, illustrating beautifully how busy this half of term has been for sport.

In more good news, our swim team has qualified for the A Final of the swimming league —a fantastic achievement. Having won the B Final last year, stepping up to the A Final is a significant accomplishment, especially with increased competition this season.

A huge well done to all teams and players for their dedication and performances!
