Recent OC Henry Lamont (East, 2012) touched down for the Oxford University 1st XV rugby team on Sunday. The Blues faced an enormous challenge as they hosted the full Russian National rugby team at Iffley Road Stadium. The team rose to the challenge of facing a professional side, ultimately losing a tightly fought game 29-15. Henry scored Oxford’s first try in stylish fashion, as the official OURFC report notes: “Lamont, who boasts a sublime left-foot step, literally turned the Russian full-back inside-out before diving over near the posts to be engulfed by his joyous teammates.”

In a team comprised primarily of post-graduates, Henry has done superbly to break into a side where under-graduates, let alone first years, are rarely seen. Many at Cranleigh will continue to follow his progress with interest.
