The annual LVth hockey tour to Holland took place at the start of the Easter holiday from March 21st – 24th. Staying at Noordwijk, a small coastal town between Amsterdam and The Hague, the boys and girls played three games in four days, fully experiencing the quality and hospitality which characterises Dutch hockey clubs.

Thursday was largely spent travelling and, after a morning playing on the beach and cycling through the sand dunes, the group headed to Leiden hockey club on Friday. The boys did well to win their match 4-2, with Ben Larwood notching four assists. The girls lost 2-4 to a strong Leiden team, and they will be out for revenge when the Leiden girls come to Cranleigh for a fixture on Friday May 10th. After the matches Leiden hosted dinner for the sides in their impressive new clubhouse, and the different teams mixed together well.

Fuelled by a trip to the local Pancake House and a quick Haarlem visit, both sides recorded convincing wins over Club Overbos on Saturday (girls 5-0, boys 5-2). On Sunday morning Klein Switzerland provided our final fixture. With five astros, a warm-up pitch and 101 junior teams alone, Cranleighans experienced hockey on a scale simply not seen in England. The girls played particularly well, but could not come away with a win, whilst the boys made it a winning tour with a final 3-1 victory.

Many thanks to Sarah Greenwood for her hard work in organising such a successful tour.
