The Cranleigh Boys’ U18 hockey team enjoyed tremendous success up at Cannock Hockey Club on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th April, by coming second in the country at the National Outdoor Finals. In so doing they have joined the earlier high profile achievements of the Girls’ U16 team coming first, and the Girls’ U14 team coming fourth, in February.
They won each of their three group matches to come top of Group E. They beat Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield 5-1, Millfield School 4-3 and Thomas Deacon Academy 7-1.
Cranleigh then faced Whitgift School in the final, having already beaten them 2-1 in the South Final, back in March. This time the contest went the way of the close rivals: we lost 1-3. Nevertheless, all of the players can look back on their personal improvement and development over the season with notable satisfaction: they played very well as a team during the tournament.
We would like to express our thanks to all the parents who came to support the team over the two days.
