Lower Sixth artists enjoyed a whole day in London viewing art. The first stop was to see the extraordinary varied exhibits of the Victoria and Albert Museum ranging from Victorian painting to 20th century household objects, from Japanese ceramics to German 16th century oak figure carving. After a quick lunch the next venue was an excellent survey show of Australian art at the Royal Academy. Here was art that came from an experience of landscape, the one built on 60,000 years of culture, the other on a modernist European aesthetic. Cranleighians worked hard, drawing and making notes, absorbing the images and ways of working which we hope will be applied to their current project: ‘Rethinking the Everyday’.
