Best of HOCKEY on 9th Nov (93 of 421)Having cruised through the Surrey heats a couple of weeks ago with three very comfortable wins, the girls played their Surrey semi-final vs CLFS last Monday. A 3-0 scoreline reflected the greater possession and control that we had, leading to a final against old rivals St. George’s. With both sides already qualified for the South Heats, an open game of hockey ensued with Cranleigh well on top in the first half but unable to finish off a number of moves with a goal. St George’s came back into it in the second half and although we still had more of the game, we just couldn’t score.  So to penalty flicks and all their flicks were of a very high standard giving them the win.

A few days later the first game of the South Heats saw us up against Wellington, including a number of the Eagle House under 13s who won the national title last year. Cranleigh went at them straight away and had much the better of possession in the first half, but couldn’t score. They didn’t panic though and the result was three unanswered goals to get an excellent win under our belts. Ardingly proved to be tough and athletic opposition in the second game. Once again the girls kept up the pressure and the goals came.  A 3-1 win meant that we just had to draw our last game to qualify for the next stage. That was never really likely as we eased past Surbiton High scoring 4 goals.

The South final rounds are on the 3rd of December.
