Cranleigh pupils are once again celebrating consistently high GCSE results, with almost two thirds of overall grades being A to A* and 100% of students gaining 5 GCSEs at A* to C grade.

The overall pass rate was 98% and all pupils passed the core subjects of Maths and English. A record-breaking 88% of pupils achieved grades at A* to B.

Director of Studies, Mr David Boggitt, said: ““In another year when experts anticipated GCSEs to be more demanding, with higher grade boundaries and tougher papers, Cranleigh is delighted to have shown consistently high results. This is a reflection of the huge amount of hard work invested by both students and staff over the entire year.”

Recent changes to the exams have made GCSEs more demanding in a bid to halt grade inflation.

Headmaster, Mr Martin Reader, said: “These results, as impressive as last year’s, are an excellent demonstration of the success of the Cranleigh approach to education, where a busy timetable matches achievement outside the classroom with academic excellence.”

Among Cranleigh’s exceptional results, 12 students were awarded nine or more straight A*s: Toby Chesser; Zoe Dixon; Liza Gordon; Isaac Hathaway; Eloise Hood; Will Mundy; Christian Oldfield; Charlotte O’Neil; Ellen Talbot; Emily Thornton-Wood; Sophie Thornton-Wood and Eleanor Williamson.
