On the 26th of January, Doctor Roger Teichmann took a break from his philosophical studies at St Hilda’s College, Oxford, to address an extended meeting of the Socratic Society on the subject of “Is there such a thing as a just war?”

Having given a fascinating explanation of the famous doctrine of a “Just War”, he proceeded to answer the questions of the Society with therteichmann panache characteristic of an astute philosopher. During the meeting, complex concepts such as whether a war could be just for both sides, and whether a war could be justified for religious reasons were discussed, and Doctor Teichmann gave us some brilliant analysis as well as explaining the view of past philosophers. It was a great success, and we look forward to our next meeting later this term.
