Pupils are celebrating record GCSE results, with 35% of all grades an A* and 67% of all grades being A*/A.  Both of these results are the best in the School’s history.  In addition, 99% of students gained 5 GCSEs at A* to C grade. A record-equalling 88% of pupils achieved grades at A* to B and the overall pass rate was 96%.

Deputy Head (Academic) David Boggitt said: “In a year when experts anticipated GCSEs to be even more demanding, Cranleigh is delighted to have achieved these results. This is a reflection of the huge amount of hard work invested by both students and staff over the entire year.”

Recent changes to the exams have made GCSEs more demanding in a bid to halt grade inflation.

Headmaster, Martin Reader, said: “These results, even more impressive than last year’s, are an excellent demonstration  of the success of our approach to education, where a busy timetable matches achievement outside the classroom with academic excellence. This cohort’s girls were national indoor and outdoor hockey champions and the boys won the national bronze at hockey. We are all really proud of the pupils’ achievements which are a fitting end to our 150th year.”

Among Cranleigh’s exceptional results, 12 students were awarded nine or more straight A*s: Adedotun Adegbite, Iola Andrew, Charlotte Andrews, Emma Grainger, Rebecca Harnby, Saskia Hogan, Callum Job, Molly La Fosse, Amy Scheijde, Rebecca Taylor, Leo Thompson and Josh Wilkinson.

The majority of students will remain at Cranleigh to join the Sixth Form and continue their studies to A Level.
