During the first week of the Easter holiday 25 members of the Cranleigh Ski Team travelled to Pampeago, Italy for the annual training trip. Blue skies and perfectly groomed pistes greeted the squad and we were lucky enough to have fantastic spring conditions throughout the week. The skiers worked on race technique with the top class instructors from Scuola Italiana Sci, Pampeago. Under the watchful and eccentric eye of the chief instructor, Gio, the team worked on Giant Slalom and Slalom gates which culminated in the Cranleigh Ski championship.
After a closely fought championship the overall results were as follows:
Overall:
Position Name Year House Slalom GS Overall
1st Lucas Le Saux L5th Cubitt 27.87 23.66 51.53
2nd Phoebe Smith 4th South 28.17 23.84 52.01
3rd Will Grainger L5th East 28.81 23.71 52.52

A special mention to Phoebe Smith who performed outstandingly well; her technique is immaculate (even by Italian Ski instructor standards) and is definitely one to watch for the future. The team will compete against other skiing schools in the ISA National Indoor Championship in Hemel Hempstead snowdome on the 24th April. Three teams of 4 will be selected from the best skiers in the school.
