Equestrian sport was the first amateur sport to be given the green light to come out of lockdown by Sport England and Cranleigh riders were delighted to have the chance to get out and compete again.
Previous to this we competed in an on-line NSEA National Dressage qualifier, with the team just out of the qualifying places in fifth, but with huge success for Darcy Blaze M. individually. A win in the Novice section, with a score of over 80%, a 2nd in the Prelim and a 3rd in the Elementary section, at her first attempt at this level, means she has qualified for the National Championships at all three levels.
At the end of August, we were lucky enough to be able to attend the re-scheduled NSEA Eventers Challenge Championship at Hickstead which attracted over 400 riders from schools as far away as North Yorkshire. A bronze medal for Issy H in the Open Event was the highlight at the end of the three days of competition, as well as a top ten place for the Novice team.
In the show jumping qualifiers that were running alongside, we were well placed and qualified an Intermediate team for the Nationals. This goes alongside the Combined Training (dressage and show jumping) success of the previous week where we qualified Novice and Intermediate teams for the Nationals, as well as Jess E taking an individual win and qualification.
In Czechoslovakia, riding resumed at the end of June with Kristy V winning a major class, followed by sister Annie V going on to win the country’s National Junior Jumping Cup. The roles were reversed at the Czech National Championships in August when Kristy took the national title. Both have been selected to represent Czechoslovakia in their Children on Horses team. The sisters also competed in FEI International Competitions, which saw Kristy taking 4th place in the Grand Prix at the Young Riders Championships. Following this, both girls took part in the Czech Show Jumping Cup, a prestigious competition for a series of elite showjumpers, which saw Annie taking 1st place and Kristy taking 3rd.
Annie also went on to represent her country at an international competition held in Zuchovice, placing 4th out of all countries competing. Kristina was also picked for an FEI Young Riders Championship event in Austria, due to be held at the end of August. However, sadly due to quarantine restrictions she was unable to take part.
