Congratulations to our U18 Boys Rugby sevens team, who won the Hampton Sevens tournament yesterday. The third time in a row a Cranleigh team has lifted the trophy and an unprecedented record.

The prestigious Hampton foundation sevens tournament, hosted by Hampton School, includes some of the best schools both in the south-east of England as well as further afield.

Yesterday the side won their group beating Gordon’s School (Harlequins ACE college 29-0), Epsom (22-10), St Benedict’s (29-0) and Ipswich School (21-12). They then went into the final against Millfield.

The final was a great exhibition of sevens rugby. We showed excellent form both with and without the ball and scored two early converted ties. Although Millfield reduced the deficit with an unconverted try, we were able to score again and reach the interval with a 19-5 lead. The Somerset school then scored late to make for a nervy finish, but the team held out to win for the third year in a row.

Congratulations to all involved!
