On Monday we were privileged to welcome Tyrone Ruth, Senior Lecturer at the Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Abu Dhabi, to talk to students about this innovative institution and to discuss the fascinating questions that surround the emergence of new forms of AI.
In his introduction, Mr Ruth explained that he is not a mathematician or a coder, yet he works in AI. He sees his job as helping people understand how to navigate lives where AI usage is becoming universal. “My job is equipping you with the skills”, he said.
The MBZ University of AI is ranked in the top 10 globally for AI and attracts leaders from top universities around the world. The university makes generous offers to support students, who join the `University as budding entrepreneurs, working on designing systems such as K2 Think, an open-source reasoning model that is a world-leader at solving maths problems. As Mr Ruth said, talking about the impact of AI, “your job will look different and you will have to use AI.” His talk gave students and staff a fascinating insight into some of the opportunities now opening up around the world as AI reconfigures working life on a global scale.
