Over Half Term, 12 Cadets travelled to Netheravon on Salisbury Plain to complete a rigorous Static Line parachute course, enabling them to independently control and land their own canopies.
The weekend began on Friday evening with a visit to the drop zone to ease pre-jump nerves, followed by seven intensive hours of ground training on Saturday. The Cadets studied skydiving principles, equipment, and vital safety drills, passing both their practical and written exams with a perfect 100% success rate.
On Saturday lunchtime, the group was joined by the Head, Mrs Price, who led by example by undertaking a spectacular tandem jump from 13,500 feet. Following a thrilling 45-second freefall with views stretching from Stonehenge to the Isle of Wight, Mrs Price landed to cheers from a relieved Major Money and the excited Cadets, describing the experience as “utterly exhilarating!”
Sunday was jump day. Under the watchful eyes of anxious parents, the nervous Cadets boarded the aircraft and were dispatched in pairs at 3,500 feet. The static lines functioned flawlessly, and all 12 Cadets safely controlled and steered their canopies back to the ground.
It was an unforgettable weekend of stepping outside comfort zones, with several Cadets already planning to work towards their official parachuting licences!
