Two members of the current U5th, Charlotte Calnan and Megan Batchelor (West House), were selected to play for the England U16 Hockey team against Ulster U17s over the Bank Holiday weekend.  This is Charlotte’s second season in the England squad but for Megan this was her first England cap and she rose to the occasion.  The team lost their first match 2-4 but came back strongly in the following two matches to win 3-1 and 3-2.  Charlotte was awarded theMegan & Charlotte captaincy for two of the three games played.

The tough selection process started over 9 months ago when Megan was selected to play at County level, a step that Charlotte was exempt from having represented England the previous season. Regional trials (JRPC)  followed this and they were selected to play in a Futures Cup Competition in Cannock in October 2013.  At this tournament the England selectors were watching intently and they shortlisted about 32 girls who have since been attending regular training sessions around the UK. From this group a smaller squad was then selected to play in Internationals over the Easter and Summer period, with the Four Nations event still to be played in Belgium.

Huge congratulations to both girls: an amazing achievement for them and for the School to have two girls winning England caps in the same year.
