Cranleigh riders braved the wind and rain on Sunday to compete in the first Arena Eventing National Qualifier of the year at Berkshire College.  Despite the atrocious weather it was a hugely successful day, orchestrated efficiently by Cranleigh as the show organisers, which resulted in three team and two individual qualifications: as only two teams and two individuals qualify from each class this is a real testament to the standard of Cranleigh riding.

The mini team started the day with a second place and our first qualification for the team of Sophie Miller, Jess Pilling, Poppy Watkinson and Phoebe Wates. Charlie Johnson and Olivia Nathan both competed in this class as individuals and made it six clear rounds for Cranleigh riders at this height.

We then dominated the novice class, finishing in first (Emily Brock, Erin McCombe, Jess Pilling, Poppy Watkinson) and second place (Sophie Miller, Amelia Shotter, Phoebe Wates, Caileigh Faure) with Erin finishing in second individually and Sophie fourth.

Erin McCombe, Amelia Shotter, Caileigh Faure and Emily Brock secured another win in the intermediate class, with a fifth position also from Tom Lane, Hattie Allison, Fred Philips and Indi Thompson.  Amelia Shotter had an outstanding score to win this class individually with Fred Philips finishing in third spot, but on the same score as the second placed rider.

Unfortunately our open team could not complete but there were individual placings for Fred, third again, and Indi Thompson in sixth.

It has been an excellent start to the new term for our riders and they hope to be able to continue this success, weather permitting, throughout the rest of the summer.
