Forty seven pupils from Lower Fifth to Upper Sixth set off for a joint Classics and Geography trip to Italy at the beginning of Long Leave. In Rome, we visited the Colosseum, site of thousands of gladiator and animal fights, then headed down to the Bay of Naples. We peered into the crater of Mount Vesuvius and visited Pompeii. We took in the Faraglioni rocks on a stunning boat tour of Capri, before clambering 35 metres below the city of Naples to visit an astonishing network of tunnels dating back to the third century BCE. We also ate a lot of pizza!
