The U18 1st Team Rugby Sevens squad enjoyed another terrific campaign this year (making two finals) and culminating in a superb performance at the National Schools Sevens during the Easter break.
The squad progressed to the quarter-finals after topping their group on Thursday, securing impressive victories over Mill Hill, Eton, and Trinity. The team battled throughout the day to claim top spot in what was regarded as a ‘group of death’ and advanced to the final stages on Friday.
Cranleigh was one of only three schools to reach the quarter-finals for the third consecutive year. Over the past decade, the school has enjoyed unrivalled success in the competition, achieving: Cup Winners (x2), Plate Winners (x1), Bowl Winners (x1), Cup Runner-up (x1), Cup Semi-finalists (x2), and three additional Cup quarter-final appearances.
In the quarter-finals, the team delivered an outstanding performance to defeat Northampton School for Boys on the showcase pitch. They then faced Kirkham in a thrilling encounter, drawing 19–19. Unfortunately, they were narrowly defeated in their final match, bringing their run to an end.
Nevertheless, it was another superb campaign, one that will be fondly remembered.
