On Tuesday 12th February Cranleigh Voices, the School’s premier vocal ensemble, took up the prestigious invitation to sing Evensong at Salisbury Cathedral. Salisbury is a fair way from Cranleigh, but the opportunity to sing in one of the most spectacular cathedral settings in the country made it well worth the journey, and the vocal talents of this 20-strong exceptionally fine group of singers were extremely well received by the cathedral clergy and congregation.

The music chosen for the service included Canticle settings by George Dyson, featuring the beautiful solo voice of Terri Yoon which rang out beautifully around the 13th century architecture. Responses were by Bernard Rose and the Anthem was “Like aCran'Voices.Salisbury.2.NEWSs the hart”  by Herbert Howells, chosen for the strong connection the composer had with this particular cathedral as its Assistant Organist in 1917. Philip Scriven, Cranleigh’s Organist in Residence, conducted the choir with his usual skill and aplomb.
