Motown At Cranleigh Arts Centre!

On the 11th of March, we held our first-ever show at the Cranleigh Arts Centre, where students performed a collection of songs from the Motown record label.

There were numerous parents, teachers and members of the public in attendance as Cranleigh students put on a captivating show after months of preparation. The evening started with a commanding performance by Maisie R., singing Baby Love by The Supremes. Featuring Adam L., Richard E., Lauren B., Elliot E., Tiwa L., Nicola O., Tyler B. and Lily B. This was followed by a captivating performance of You Can’t Hurry Love by the Supremes sung by Maisy B., featuring Bill G., Rebecca P., Hugo H., Ben D., Malen B. and Rupert H.

Wren H.-D. and Flora C. got the audience moving with an energetic rendition of Martha Reeves & The Vandellas’ – Dancing In The Street. Expertly accompanied by Digby R., Richard E., Jamie T., Jake A., Monty N. and Isaac T.

No Motown show would be complete without the music of Stevie Wonder. There were several highlights in all four of the songs performed in succession, written by one of Motown’s most famous artists. Ted S. gave an assured performance of Signed Sealed Delivered. I Wish was certainly one of the highlights of the evening, thanks to strong performances from Tara M., Braden G., Sirus P., Brandon G., Lucinda L., James W. and Bertie H.

Rafe B., Patrick A. and Andrew M. did an excellent job throughout the evening navigating some difficult music with precision. Mr Jacob Purcell supported students on several songs throughout the evening with some expert bass playing.
The show ended with a fantastic performance from Nicola O., singing Diana Ross’s – I’m Coming Out which was a fitting way to end an entertaining night of soulful music.

Mr Joel Robinson, Head of Contemporary Music
