PSHE at Cranleigh is a core element of the pupil experience as it compliments and supports both our academic and pastoral strands. Pupils are encouraged to develop a critical awareness and understanding of themselves, and their role in society, through a carefully structured and dynamically evolving curriculum while studying other key elements of PSHE in their academic subjects including Religion and Philosophy, Digital Literacy, Biology, History and English. PSHE at Cranleigh is delivered through a combination of weekly timetabled classroom sessions and lectures from experienced school staff and external specialists.
PSHE at Cranleigh follows seven key strands; Online Safety; Relationships, family, and friends; Physical Health; Wellbeing and mental health; Sexual Health, sexuality and gender; Diversity and anti-racism; and Life skills. PSHE is closely integrated with the delivery of Cranleigh Futures and makes full use of the shared Unifrog platform and teaching resources available, with Futures becoming a significantly more dominant part of the PSHE provision at 6th form in preparation for life beyond Cranleigh. PSHE looks to build on pupils’ prior knowledge from their previous schools; be positive, relevant and engaging for the pupils; and sensitive yet responsive to current local and national issues.
With the recent government RSE update, due to come into effect from 1st September 2026, focussing on helping all children identify positive role models and challenge harmful ideas they may encounter online and in real life, the co-ordination of PSHE was bought under the direct remit of the Assistant Head Pastoral for this transition. The current PSHE syllabus has been refreshed to include significantly updated ‘Unifrog’ teaching resources alongside use of ‘Life Story Education’ resources ‘School Story’, ‘Life Story’, and ‘Love Story’ to enhance student engagement through real-life scenarios and challenges in an extended role-play format.
PSHE at Cranleigh follows current statutory government guidance on Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), statutory Independent Schools Regulations on Health Education, and guidance from the PSHE association to ensure best practice in our PSHE provision. Should parents wish to see more detail regarding the PSHE curriculum materials, please contact the Assistant Head Pastoral, Mr David Mulae.
