The Medical Centre is situated in a converted house right next to the campus; it contains seven beds (two of which are purpose built en-suite isolation rooms) and a fully equipped clinic.
The centre is run by a team of fully qualified Registered General Nurses with qualifications in paediatric minor injuries, travel health and wound care. It provides medical care during school hours, on a Saturday until 8pm and Sundays a Nurse will be on call.
The team looks after pupils with conditions such as asthma, hayfever and diabetes, as well as providing care for sudden illnesses or accidents. Pupils will be admitted by the nurses to the Medical Centre if they are too unwell to be at school. Parents will be contacted if the duty nurse feels the pupil would recover better at home. If a pupil needs to see a general practitioner urgently, an appointment can be made at Shere Surgery and arrangements will be made to take the pupil to Shere.
We place a great emphasis on confidentiality. All pupils are welcome to see us to discuss any concerns they may have, knowing it will go no further than the Medical Centre. We are non-judgmental and always happy to lend an ear to those who seek our help.
Below you will find a download for our parental consent form for pupils to be given medicines in school by Matron/house staff which have not been prescribed by the School doctor. Please complete this form and return to Matron/house staff along with the medication.

TRAVEL HEALTH AND VACCINATIONS
We offer vaccinations to children who are travelling on overseas school trips. If parents are travelling abroad privately with their child, it is their responsibility to organise this via their local surgery (as a temporary resident) or by contacting Shere Surgery on 01483 202066.
Cranleigh Pharmacy also offers travel vaccinations and can be contacted on 01483 274323 or by emailing cranleighpharmacy@gmail.com.
If your child is travelling overseas with the School, i.e. a school trip, please email the Medical Centre at medicalcentre@cranleigh.org. As some courses of injections need to be given over a period of 6 months, we would ask that you supply this information to us as far in advance of the trip as possible. Vaccinations are charged to parents at the prevailing NHS rate. This service is not available to Day pupils (unless they are registered with Shere Surgery).

The Wednesday surgery is usually run by a female doctor for those who prefer this option.
Parents are welcome to accompany their child on an appointment, but please can we ask that parents inform the Medical Centre so that their child’s appointment can be made at the end of the clinic.
Pupils who are registered with Shere Surgery have full access to their services during the school holidays either by calling 01483 202066 or visiting their website and registering for the AskMyGP service.
SPORTS DOCTOR
Cranleigh School is in the very fortunate to have on-site sports injury clinics run by Sports Doctors from Return2Play (part of Meliora Medical Group.) They provide in house injury assessment and rehabilitation advice working closely with our physiotherapist, Mr Glen Lewis. Where necessary the Sports Doctor will provide onward referral for further investigations and specialist input.
Their doctors also provide cover on match days during the Michaelmas term.
DR. DAN ECKFORD
Dr Dan Eckford is the lead sports doctor at Cranleigh. Having originally trained in London, he then completed his GP training in South Wales where he also undertook post-graduate qualifications in Sports and Exercise Medicine. He worked with Swansea RFC and the Ospreys before becoming Team Doctor for Wales Women rugby before moving to Hampshire. He is now a doctor for Hampshire Cricket and Harlequins rugby.

SPECIALIST SERVICES
Surgeries, with GPs and sports medicine specialists, are provided at the Medical Centre at the times shown in the above table each week during term time.
A sports specialist doctor from Return2Play covers Saturday rugby matches in the Michaelmas term.
PHYSIOTHERAPY
As part of our new sports provision we have a physiotherapist (Mr Glen Lewis) on site four days per week. There is no charge for the first assessment and one follow up. If Glen feels that further treatment is needed then Dr Eckford our Sports Doctor will generate a referral which can then be used for medical insurance purposes or you may wish to self-fund further treatment. Private physiotherapy is charged at £50 per session.
Parents are contacted for consent and insurance details prior to booking any private physiotherapy sessions.
Glen Lewis works closely with Mr Simon Brearley, the Cranleigh School Strength and Conditioning coach.
