It was a fantastic weekend of sport, with an impressive 39 teams in action.
Our netball teams delivered some outstanding performances against one of the toughest opponents we’ll face all season. Across 20 matches, we secured 10 wins. Congratulations to the 3rds, 4ths, 16A, 16B, 15A, 15C-E, and 14A on their victories!
Football saw a series of highly competitive matches, with five games played—each school winning two and losing one. Meanwhile, our boys’ hockey teams enjoyed great success, recording seven wins and two draws from 13 matches. A special mention goes to Mr Hillen, whose team won 4-2. Remarkably, he has now gone unbeaten for 7 years at the 15D/E team level—an incredible achievement!
Teams of the Week:
3rd XI Hockey – A superb 2-1 victory over Hurstpierpoint, featuring high-intensity pressing, slick passing, and a late winner from Archie F with just five minutes to go. Well done!
3rd VII Netball – A thrilling 33-32 win, sealed with a last-second goal! Special recognition to Molly B for her outstanding performance.
During the week it has been equally busy. On Tuesday on 1st team Girls Hockey played their final Tier 1 league match and produced the best performance of the season winning 4-2 in a terrific standard of hockey. This puts us 3rd in the league and a performance that all involved should be proud of. For those watching it was a memorial performance and from a personal point of view, I shouldn’t have been prouder of the squad.
We had our first touch rugby game against Farlington and we came away winning with lots of pupils playing their first ever game. The boys 1st XI Hockey sadly lost 3-2 in their Tier 1 League match vs Warwick. This means their final match against Millfield becomes crucial to their chances of advancing into the knockout rounds.
Thursday saw a host of matches with the U15A rugby playing Radley in the quarterfinal of the national shield. Sadly we came second losing 10-0. The 1st XI boys football also had a semi-final and were looking to reach the final for the third year in a row. Sadly we lost but it has been a wonderful journey once again in the ISFA shield. The 16A Boys hockey team had their cup game coming back from 2-0 down to take it into extra time and then shuttles. Sadly we lost but well done to Arthur A. on his terrific performance The 3rd XI Boys football won 1-0 against Hurtwood House with a brilliant keeping display by Stan B.
Badminton, Fives and Swimming were also out in force. In the Fives, both pairs put in a strong performance against Mill Hill. Special recognition should go to Izzy P. and Felicity H. who put up a fantastic effort against Mill Hill’s 2nd pair. Felicity’s powerful cutting was particularly impressive. In the swimming, the pupils did really well – 2nd place with 233 points. Special mention to Omar H. who stepped up last minute to do the open 100m free and ended up with a massive personal best by over 5 seconds. Our Badminton team came away with a narrow 8-7 victory. Lots of great performances with some playing in their first fixture but special mention to Lorenzo F. and Tom H. who, as a pair, were responsible for over half of our points!
This weekend we see a vast number of matches in Netball and Football as well as Internal matches and House matches in Hockey. All U14 Girl netballers will be involved in matches and they have been emailed on Thursday regarding teams / locations.
