Weekend Sports Roundup

It was a fantastic Saturday afternoon of sport, with 37 matches played under the long-awaited sunshine.

Netball
The netball teams had a mix of senior-level tournament matches and junior fixtures against Charterhouse. There were impressive victories for most of the U14 and U15 teams, while the 16A, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st teams competed in a 16-school tournament. The 3rd VII delivered an outstanding performance, holding their own against other schools’ 1st teams. The 1st team narrowly missed out on victory, losing in the final by just two goals, but coming away with a silver medal. Meanwhile, the 16A team put in a superb effort, earning a well-deserved bronze medal at the senior level.

Midweek matches also brought great results, including a strong win for the 15B team against KES Witley’s 15A, as well as victories for the 15C and 14C teams. The 14D side battled hard to secure a draw.

Boys’ Hockey
Facing Tonbridge, the hockey teams showed great skill and determination. The 1st team fought to a hard-earned 3-3 draw, demonstrating real resilience after also playing on Friday night. The 3rd XI put on a dominant display, winning 4-1 with some superb counter-attacking play. In a thrilling finish, the 15A team secured a dramatic 3-2 victory with a last-minute goal from Oscar P. There were also victories for our 14D, 14B, 15C, 4th and 3rd teams. During the week, the 16A cup team travelling to St Lawrence in the National Plate where they lost 3-2 in an excellent game of hockey.

Football
Football teams enjoyed an exceptional weekend, remaining undefeated. The 5th and 2nd XI both scored an impressive 10 goals each. Special mentions go to Freddie H., who netted five goals, and Max F., who scored four for the 2nd XI.

Golf
James M. and Jack H. represented the school at the SWIFT golf event, competing against some of the best independent school golfers. James performed exceptionally well, shooting 2-over and 1-over across his two rounds, finishing 6th out of 60 competitors—an outstanding achievement.

Sailing
Congratulations to Will B., who has been selected to represent Britain as part of Team GB at the ILCA 6 (International Laser Class Association) U19 European Championships in Vilamoura, Portugal this April. A fantastic achievement—well done!

Rugby Sevens
For the first time, our rugby sevens squad entered two teams into the Surrey U18 Sevens Tournament. The 1st VII competed in the Cup tournament, while the 2nd VII took on other schools’ 1st and 2nd teams in an additional competition.

Both teams performed exceptionally well, reaching their respective finals. The 2nd VII  despite trailing by two scores with three minutes remaining, they staged a remarkable comeback, scoring on the last play to force extra time. Unfortunately, a breakaway try saw them narrowly lose, but their effort was outstanding.

The 1st VII also delivered superb performances throughout the day, only to be edged out in the final by London Irish ACE College, Bishop Wandsworth—again on the last play. Reaching two finals was a historic achievement for the tournament.

Other Highlights
During the week, the newly revamped MNF Girls’ Football Tournament saw victories for West and Rhodes. We also send our best wishes to the Bath Cup team competing at the Olympic Park today—fingers crossed their hard work in the pool pays off!
