It was brilliant to see matches return on Saturday afternoon and great to see the buzz and energy.

It was a great first weekend for the equestrian team at the National Qualifiers. There was a win for the Open Arena Eventing team, with 1st individually for Tara M. (Martlet) in this and the Advanced Open. Madeleine R. (South) was 1st and 2nd in the Open Combined Training.

The Girls Hockey saw victories across the majority of teams. The 1st XI came back from 2-1 down to win 3-2 with Izzy B scoring two goals. It was great to see so many making their debuts. The 2nd XI produced a wonderful team performance winning 2-1 with Molly B., Ella S., Katie A., Caitlyn B. and Izzy P. all playing particularly well. The 14 B’s produced a brilliant performance to draw 1-1 after only 3 sessions. The 16 A’s won 7-1 with Tega S scoring a Hattrick with Lara B. and Willa W. both scoring two goals. The 16B’s have already scored a contender from goal of the season in their 5-1 win. Olivia P. had a great game in goal for the 14 C’s despite losing and we had the 15 A’s winning 2-1. Their match winning goal came from a short corner routine that all the coaches had learnt in INSET, which made the whole club very happy indeed!

The Rugby teams had a superb start to the season winning 16 out of the 17 matches played and drawing one. The 15 A & B teams played some brilliant early season rugby especially with their defensive efforts. The 15 B in their match vs Eton College, won 19 – 12 with Tom A scoring the winning try. The 16 B’s put in a superb performance against John Fisher, coming back to win 7-5 with a highly competitive match with both sides leaving nothing out there. The 1st XV were excellent winning 40-0 against Eton in which their attacking play and ability to threaten out wide was tremendous.

This year, we have a whole School assembly on a Tuesday where two teams are awarded ‘Teams of the week’. This week the honour goes to the 16 A girls hockey and the equestrian team. Well done to them.

During the week we had the St George’s 6’s for the 1st XI Girls Hockey. The squad did brilliantly winning 4 of their 6 matches and drawing 1. Well done on a terrific start to the season.

The Golf team was also out competing on Thursday afternoon and brought home the first trophy of the term with a strong performance in the West Sussex GC Schools Invitation event on Thursday this week. From a field of 16 schools competing, both of the Cranleigh pairs scored well and came away with the team handicap prize, scoring 65 points in total. The team was; James M.,  James R., Jack H. and Jonny S. This is the first time we have won the trophy since 2010 where we won it two years running. Congratulations to all the team.

We also had the Girls House Bouldering competition with a large number of girls competing for the first time in this sport.

There has also been some wonderful cricket news with last year’s 1st XI Boys captain Adam Thomas being on the shortlist of 4 for the Wisden Schoolboy Cricketer of the year.

This weekend sees a vast number of matches throughout our sports with the U14 Boys rugby having their first set of matches. The 3rd XV rugby team will play the 4th XV for 30mins in a semi-contact game from 2pm before both playing a half vs Trinity in order to give as many boys the chance to play this weekend as possible. Please bear with us with selection and I do promise that there is plenty of opportunity for pupils to be moved up the teams throughout the season.  Please also do arrive early and be patient in terms of parking, as we are expecting large numbers on site.

Please check our sports page for information on start times and locations.
