It was a packed week of sports after a the half term break, with competitions across multiple events.

The girls’ hockey and boys’ rugby teams faced their toughest challenges in a block of fixtures, competing in 27 matches overall. Congratulations to the senior girls’ hockey teams, who played four matches, winning three and drawing one. A big well done to the senior and U16 boys’ rugby teams, who won six of their seven games. Notably, the 1st and 3rd XV rugby teams remain unbeaten, as does the 3rd XI hockey team. The girls’ 1st XI Hockey team earned the “Team of the Week” award after an outstanding run, winning all three of their matches. They defeated St John’s 2-1, Bede’s 5-1 (both in the Tier 1 Cup tournament), and concluded the week with a 5-1 win over Hurstpierpoint. The U15A girls’ hockey team also put in their best performance of the season, winning 4-0 on Saturday.

Mid-week saw the senior netball team achieve a superb win against Rudgwick, and the U18 boys competed in the regional indoor hockey qualifier on Monday. We also had swimming against Churcher’s which we won at mixed U18 and U15 age group. The squash team played against the OC’s, and we had cup hockey games, with the U16A hockey team winning 5-0 at Portsmouth Grammar School. The boys’ 1st XI hockey team took on Taunton on Wednesday in the England Hockey Tier 1 tournament, winning 3-2 in a thrilling match. The U18 girls’ indoor hockey side had a terrific day on Thursday qualifying for the South East finals in two weeks’ time. This included a 2-1 win the semi-final which involved being 1-0 down with only 2 minutes to go and still winning 2 -1!

In other great news, Charlotte B. was awarded a talented athlete scholarship for England U18 rugby, and Anya M. achieved top placements in her first British show jumping competition, securing a spot in the Grand Prix finals on Sunday. Congratulations to both! We also have exciting updates about recent alumni: three OC’s are playing in international rugby this weekend, with Hugh Tizard and Oscar Beard representing England A vs Australia and Dino Lamb playing for Italy. Former 1st XI cricket captain Tom Lawes has also been selected for the England Lions’ South Africa Development Camp.

This weekend, we have many matches at various locations, as well as the U14 netball County national qualifier. Please check our sports desk for further venue details and plan to arrive early to assist with parking on what promises to be a busy afternoon here at Cranleigh.
