Over the weekend, the hockey teams excelled, winning 9 out of 11 matches. The 2nd XI showcased some excellent hockey, with Caitlyn B. scoring twice, and Ella S. and Mads R. leading an exceptional defensive effort. The 16B team triumphed with a hat trick from Olivia C-P., while Olivia F. scored another hat trick in the 15D’s commanding 7-0 win. Ruby M. continued the trend with her own hat trick in the 3rd XI’s 6-0 victory, and the 14D team also delivered a solid win. The 15C team celebrated their first victory of the season with an outstanding 3-0 performance. The 4th XI won 2-1 against Christ Hospital’s 2nd XI, with the winning goal coming from a textbook short corner routine to secure the fine victory. Congratulations to all the teams!

The rugby club saw a series of excellent results, winning 12 out of 15 matches against Seaford. The 1st XV secured a hard-fought 27-21 win, while the 2nd XV triumphed in a thrilling 21-19 contest. Another close match saw the 4th XV edge out Christ’s Hospital 20-17, though the 5th XV narrowly lost in the final minutes against another school’s 3rd XV. The 16A team staged a superb comeback to win 43-7, particularly strong in the second half, while the 16C team triumphed in a triangular fixture, winning their final match. The 14B’s celebrated their first victory of the season with a tense 3-0 win, and the 15B team battled hard for a narrow 19-17 victory.

The badminton and squash teams also played their first matches of the season, with a special highlight being the squash team’s home matches on a Saturday afternoon—the first in many years. While both teams were defeated but have learnt a huge amount already this term and it is encouraging to see the growing popularity of both sports.

In other news, Will M won his trampolining regional qualifier setting a personal best whilst doing so, this has secured his place in the National finals against 15 other qualifiers which takes place over Half term. Charlotte B. also received wonderful news regarding making it through the England U18 rugby first round trial.

Teams of the Week:

  • 14C Girls’ Hockey: After two losses leading up to the weekend, the team delivered a fantastic 2-0 victory against Christ’s Hospital’s B team. Congratulations to the girls for an outstanding win!
  • Swim Team: The swim team achieved a commanding 143-89 win against Bradfield, with notable performances from swimmers such as Benji W. and Felix B. Polly F. from the 4th Form also made a significant contribution to the team’s early-season success. Captained by Jamie T. and Lola N-P., the swimming squad is looking strong and promising.

This week saw fixtures in a handful of sports during the week. On Tuesday, there was a mixed U15/U14 golf match against the prep school (which was a tie), as well as the U15A rugby team playing away in their cup fixture. The Badminton team, 16 and 14A Netball teams and the swim team were all in action. The swimming team performed brilliantly at the first round of the School Swimming Super League. Swimming against Downland’s, Downsend and Charterhouse, we won overall but we also won a brilliant 19/34 events and 28/34 (82%) were top 2 placings. Stand out swims were Jamie T., Siena R., Felix B. and Aston S. The 14A netball team won their Sisters in Sport round 1 cup match against KES Witley 42-12. Well done to them on an exciting start.

We also wish the Equestrian team the very best in the National Qualifier at Felbridge on Saturday and Sunday.
