Following the outstanding success of the U18 Boys team in January, when they were National Indoor Runners-up, the programme for indoor hockey practices was expanded in September to include two different age groups for girls and boys.

In various competitions in November and December a number of Cranleighans relished the opportunity to participate and develop their skills in the highly pressurised confines of indoor hockey:-

U16 Girls – played in the Surrey Heats.
They narrowly missed out in going through to the South Regional heats, having been undefeated (winning one and drawing three matches). This side was composed of players from the LVth and the IVth Form, so they did particularly well at this stage of their development.

U16 Boys – played in the South Regional Finals.
Having qualified quite comfortably from the previous round, these boys enjoyed a good learning experience, but there was relatively little expectation as this was the first year of entry. They won one, drew one and lost three matches.

U18 Girls – played in the South Regional Heats.
They faced opponents with pedigree and well established records in indoor hockey, but they only lost by the odd goal in their games

U18 Boys – played in the South Regional Finals.
They qualified for the National Finals by winning five matches and losing just one: these finals will take place on the weekend of January 14th and 15th.
They also went to Almere in the middle of The Netherlands for three days of intense training and two matches before Christmas.

The two junior squads have been joined by players from the Prep School as part of the Cranleigh School 7 – 18 programme: talking to a number of those players and parents it seems to be a very popular venture.
