On Thursday 15th March, the Geography Department held its first lecture followed by a formal dinner. Acting Headmaster Mr Andrew Griffiths gave an extremely interesting talk about his trip to New Zealand at the end of last year entitled “New Zealand: A Land of Risk and Opportunity”. This was of great use to the many UVI Geographers present as he covered virtually all of the aspects of the A2 Hazards syllabus in fine detail, including all the different types of fault which can be found in New Zealand, and the subsequent earthquakes they cause.

After the lecture, everyone enjoyed an excellent three course meal provided by the catering department in the Dining Hall. All in all, a most enjoyable evening, and one that I hope will be replicated in the future.
