For one group of L5th and U5th pupils who are studying German, last term ended slightly early when they embarked on a two-day to trip to Aachen. They were very lucky with the weather and were able to enjoy the sights and markets in clear sunshine. After a good breakfast at a historic café in the centre of Aachen the group enjoyed a guided tour around the town followed by a visit to the extensive Christmas markets where they could sample a variety of different food and drink, including the famous Aachener Printen , German sausages and mulled wine. In the afternoon they visited the world famous cathedral built by Charles the Great in 796 which is the oldest cathedral in northern Europe. The trip finished with a visit to the Lindt chocolate factory the next morning where everyone was truly spoilt for choice!
