Cranleigh riders hit the campaign trail in fine style this weekend in the first of this term’s Regional Qualifiers for the National Championships at Addington in October.

Mayfield Girls School, in East Sussex, was the venue for this Arena Eventing competition, which 15 of our riders contested in fine style: the South East is one of the toughest regions to qualify from and the standard of riding was as high as we have come to expect.  To come away with two qualifications, therefore, as well as four further placings in the top six was an excellent start to the term.

The Mini team of Sam Hollidge; Lila Millard; Josh Moore and Phoebe Going won their event in fine style with theMayfield ‘B’ team of Lila; Amy Scheijde; Lulu Garlick and Issi Hollidge picking up fourth place.  The two Novice teams finished third and fourth, with time faults playing more of a part than perhaps they have done in the past, before the Intermediate team of Caileigh Faure; Charlotte Livingstone; Amelia Adorian and Josh Moore stormed home to win their event over a very technical course in the cross country phase.  Caileigh picked up an individual qualification in second place too with Josh Moore finishing fourth in only his first competition for us at this height.

The Open team produced four excellent rounds over a course that took no hostages and saw many finding the technical difficulty just too much.

Sophie Spear (Director of Riding) was delighted with the performance of all the riders after just one week back in school to practise and she is hopeful of further success for the riders over the next five weekends.
