During the first week of the Christmas holiday, 32 members of the newly formed ski team attended a week of race specific training in Sugarloaf, Maine, USA. Unfortunately, the snow conditions did not favour the intensive race regime that was originally planned but we did get to ski for 6 hours a day. All skiers were able to improve their race technique and alleviate any flaws that have crept in during numerous skiing holidays and days in the ‘park’.
Under the watchful eye of Franck Blanc (ESF Chief Instructor) and the 4 instructors from Sugarloaf, the team carved up the slopes for a very enjoyable five days of skiing. We have some very strong skiers at Cranleigh; Benjy Carr (UVth), Theo Canham (UVth), Isaac Hathaway (LVIth) and Jemima Stephenson (LVIth) all showed fantastic technique in the poor conditions and they are all looking forward to competing in the numerous championships next season. The trip laid the foundations for the future of the team which will include race training camps and interschool competitions.
