Since the HSBC Rosslyn Park national sevens victory in late March, there has been more good news for the squad.
Harry Barlow was selected for England U17 against France. England lost the match but Harry started on the wing and now has both an U16 and U17 international cap against his name.
Hugh Tizard has also joined him in the U17 squad for the upcoming match against Scotland in Newcastle this weekend. Hugh has been selected as a back row / second row forward; it is the first time he has been selected at International level.
Tom Nicole has been selected to trial with England sevens development squad after his outstanding performances over the course of the last two sevens seasons.
Jamie Barden (U17) who turned a number of heads during the finals, has been rewarded by being offered a trial with Harlequins elite academy this summer. Sam Lubbock (who is in the Upper Fifth and currently U16) has also been offered trials with the elite academy.
The squad has continued to train after being asked to play on Sunday 21st May 2017 at Twickenham as part of the HSBC London international series. The School played there last year (again as a result of winning the title) and will once again have the experience of playing in front of 50,000 fans.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the individuals, squad and the whole School. We are the only school to ever win back-to-back National sevens titles as well as St joseph’s title in the same twelve-month period. The boys individually deserve so much credit and I am so proud that so many are getting the recognition that they fully deserve. I can’t tell you how hard they have worked and how humble they have been with the success that they have achieved. I hope to see lots of familiar faces in the crowd at Twickenham!”.
