As with so many sports, the cricket season does not start and end in the Summer Term.
Over the Easter break it was great to see many Cranleighans – current and former – play at such high levels. Angus Dahl (North Upper Sixth) toured Sri Lanka with the Surrey Academy, captaining the side. Jack Scriven (Loveday, 2013), Karthik Suresh (Cubitt, 2015) and Ollie Pope (Loveday 2016) all made their first-class debuts respectively for Cardiff University, Cambridge University and Surrey CCC. This season has already seen five recent OCs play first-class cricket.
Also only this past weekend Old Cranleighans’ Michael Burgess (North 2012), Ollie Pope and Stuart Meaker (North 2007) played against each other for Sussex and Surrey respectively in the Royal London Cup.
In school the summer so far has been extremely productive. Due to fantastic weather we have been fortunate to have played all fixtures, winning 69% of all games so far. The highlight has been the school winning all of the matches against Eastbourne College. Freddy Austin (U6th), George Ealham (L5th) and Tom Lawes (4th) have scored centuries for the 1st XI, U15A’s and U14A’s respectively.
The 1st XI has started the season well, winning eight out of nine games so far, and beating Tonbridge, Harrow and Charterhouse along the way. The side is unfortunately out of the National T20 completion, losing in a tight last over battle against Tonbridge.
