This week the 1st Girls’ tennis team recorded an impressive victory over Reed’s in the first round of the Branston Shield, a knock-out event open to schools in Surrey.

The match started with the four players playing singles against their opposite numbers.   Amy Thompson put up a brave fight at the No. 1 position, losing narrowly 3-6, 4-6, whilst our Nos. 2 & 3 players, Emma Galletti and Izzy Petter recorded comfortable wins in their matches.

After a tense and closely fought contest, Willow Senior managed to secure a win too, with a 6-4, 7-6 result.   So we went into the doubles round leading by three matches to one, and knowing that we only needed to win one more match.

Izzy and Willow quickly overcame the Reed’s second pair with an emphatic 6-0 victory, so there was no need for the first pair to complete their set, though they were leading 4-3 at the end of the contest.

We wait to hear confirmation about our next round opponents, but there is strong chance that it may be St George’s, Weybridge.
