During the first week of Christmas holiday, 16 Ski team members travelled to Les Deux Alpes to take place in the ISSSC (Independent Schools Ski and Snowboard Championship). None of the team had competed for the school or in such a big national event before.
The team conducted two days of intensive gate training with impulse race instructors and ESF before competing for three days of inter school competition. 350 racers from over 20 schools attended, with ages ranging from U9’s through to U18’s.
The conditions were very tricky, 30 cm of snow fell over night before the first day of competition, which made the course very technically challenging. Theo De Unger performed outstandingly, placing 4th overall in GS and Slalom.
The top girls skier, Phoebe Smith placed in the top 10 in both events and the boys team gained a very credible 6th place overall.
The team we very unlucky to be knocked out of the dual slalom by the smallest of margins by the overall winners Hurst.
The full results can be found here. The team will be training in the summer on dry slope and hope to return to the ISSSC next winter.
