Congratulations to Will Barnicoat, who is officially the fastest U15 runner in the UK after taking the gold medal at the British Athletics UK Cross Country Championships.

Representing Surrey at the Loughborough course this weekend, Will said: ‘The course was extremely muddy which made it quite a slow race – not ideal conditions for my type of running so I was quite apprehensive at the start. As the gun went off we all sprinted for a good position with the front group being made up of my rival (who won the Nationals two weeks ago), my Surrey team mate and myself.

‘My coach told me to open up three quarters of the way through the race. I pushed the pace and broke free from the other two. I kept looking behind because I thought at any second my rival would storm past me, but he didn’t. I ran for home and took the UK Cross Country Championship title.’
