As with so many sports, the cricket season does not start and end in the Summer Term. Over the Easter break it was great to see many Cranleighans – current and former – play at such high levels. Tom Lawes (Upper Sixth) and George Ealham (Lower Sixth) toured Sri Lanka with the Surrey Academy, and George made his debut for Surrey 2nd XI this past week. Three Lower Fifth pupils, Tom Ealham, Yousef Majid and Sachin Shanmukhavel have been training with Kent and Surrey respectively over the winter, and in the Fourth Form Luke Webster, Gabriel Hammond and Harry Morrogh have been involved in county training with Surrey, Middlesex and Hampshire respectively also. With many boys also being away with the School on tour in Sri Lanka in February, everyone is raring to go this summer.

It has been fantastic to follow three Old Cranleighans in Michael Burgess (North 2012), Ollie Pope (Loveday 2016) and Stuart Meaker (North 2007) playing first class cricket early this summer. Ollie himself involved again with England and the England Lions over the winter. We also had two recent leavers in Angus Dahl (North 2017) and Lewis Bedford (Cubitt 2017) make their first class debuts for Leeds/Bradford MCCU and Durham MCCU respectively. Angus in fact made his debut and captained at the same time – some achievement for a 1st year student! Karthik Suresh (Cubitt 2014) was also playing for Cambridge MCCU taking 5-44 against Worcestershire. It is good to also see so many Old Cranleighans planning to play in Surrey Premier League and this bodes very well for the OC Cricketer Cup team.
